The Celeb® 850 LED DMX joins Kino Flo€™s family line of LED soft lights. One of the largest LED€™s in the industry, the Celeb 850 Center Mount measures 45" x 26" (114cm x 66cm). Light output is 111FC at 10ft (1251 LUX at 3M) but only uses 5.0A (120VAC).
The Celeb 850€™s €œAll in One" design includes standard DMX in/out ports for cable as well as wireless DMX connectivity (Lumen Radio®). Additional specifications include universal AC voltage input 100-240vac (5.0 Amps at 120vac).
Kino Flo€™s Celeb 850 LED includes 5 menu options. The White menu features include Dimming, Kelvin and Green/Magenta control channels. Dimming range is from .02 to 100 percent without introducing any flicker and can be adjusted in coarse or fine mode by pressing the control knob in/out. The Kelvin range is tunable from 2700K tungsten to 6500K daylight. The Green/Magenta control can be scaled from 0 to 100, where 25 = ¼ correction, 50 = ½ correction and 100 = full correction.
The RGB color menu gives individual control of red, green and blue LED€™s. The RGB mode is a great way to work with apps with predetermined RGB presets or color wheels. RGB menu is also a great feature to dial in specific gel RGB values or when controlling colors from a DMX desk.
The FX (Effects) menu introduced on June 1, 2018 provides access to popular effects such as Candle, Fire, TV, Police, Lightning, Paparazzi, Pulse and Scroll. When on the desired effect, there are several pre-sets as well as control parameters that can be altered. For example, in the Lightning effect there is a €œStorm" and €œFrankenstein" preset, but it is possible to change Rate to provide additional variation.
True Match® 4.0 Firmware update in September 2019 includes groundbreaking features: CIE xy, Camera Profiles LUTs and Color Space selection.
The CIE xy determines the color displayed by its X and Y space coordinates. For example, with a handheld color meter like the Sekonic C-800, users can obtain a CIE xy reading from any light source and input the CIE xy coordinates into the Kino Flo LED fixture to match colors closely.
Camera Profiles LUTs available for the following cinema cameras and more to follow: Panavsion DXL, Sony Venice, ARRI Alexa, Panasonic Varicam. Kino Flo€™s True Match® 4.0 firmware balances their LED lights to the cameras rather than the other way around.
The Kino Flo designed tungsten and daylight LED emitters harmonize with the camera sensors even as the color temperature settings are adjusted.
The Color Space defines the RGB color space (white point and RGB primary colors) as a means of matching color points between manufacturing. Defining the color space takes the guesswork out of post-production workflow and color grading. Included in the 4.0 firmware are: rec 709/sRGB, P3 D65, rec 2020, and ESTA E1.54.

The Center Mount
Celeb 850 with Center Mount Center Mount Assembly (Included) Junior Pin Stand Adapter (Included) The center mount is ideal for location shooting and allows the fixture to spin 360 degrees to produce a wide range of desired angles. For further control, the center mount can also rotate at 90° stops. Pull locking pin and turn counter-clockwise to unlock. When the fixture rotates to a 90° angle, the fixture will "click" into place. Turn locking pin to the right to lock into place.Â
DMX Operation
The Celeb 850 LED DMX operates on three DMX channels (in White mode) using DMX512 (six DMX channels in Color mode). The first channel operates dimming; the 2nd channel operates Kelvin color temperature control; the 3rd channel operates the Hue.
In Gels/Hue Color mode: 4th channel operates the Gel; 5th channel operates the Hue angle and the 6th channel operates the Saturation. In RGB Color mode, 4th channel operates Red; 5th channel operates Green and the 6th channel operates Blue.
In CIE xy mode, first channel operates dimming; 2nd channel operates x; the 3rd channel operates y.
For FX (Effects) mode, see True Match® Firmware 4.0 DMX mapping.
Â
Wireless Operation
The Celeb 850 LED DMX includes a built-in Lumen Radio receiver and can be operated wirelessly with a Lumen Radio transmitter
(sold separately). Wireless is an option to using DMX cables. For more information on Lumen Radio Receiver/Transmitter,
see www.lumenradio.com.
Energy Efficiency
The Celeb 850 LED DMX operates on universal AC power and needs only 5.0A (120VAC). The Celeb€™s cost savings from low energy and long lamp life continues Kino Flo€™s reputation as an environmentally friendly lighting company.
Long LED Life
Rated lifetime is up to 50,000 hours. With its long LED life, the Celeb€™s unique design maintains its color-correct color temperature.
True Match® Color-Correct
As with all Kino Flo products, the Celeb 850 LED has been specially formulated to match the spectral distribution curves of today€™s HD film and video equipment. The Celeb LED has high color rendering. Even while dimming, the fixture is flicker-free and without color shift.
Heat Management Design
For Kino Flo, heat management is a critical design element of fixture design. The physical heat or buildup heat within the LED fixture will directly influence the color temperature, lumen performance and life of the LED.
The Celeb€™s unique design operates coolly, consumes very low energy (5.0A, 120VAC) and is properly ventilated to maintain a stable color temperature.
A well maintained temperature extends the lumen maintenance, color temperature and life of the LED.
Cost Savings
Cost savings attributed to the Celeb 850 LED cover a broad range of concerns:
- Low energy costs
- Less heat so low air conditioning expenses
Energy Savings Calculations
With the push for reducing fossil fuel consumption, TV studios are looking at cooler more efficient lighting systems to reduce the costs and save energy. Part of this process involves generating energy values to determine savings. One of the most important values is Btu/kWh.
British Thermal Units per Kilowatt Hour
Any light generates a percentage of usable light and the rest in heat. For example, a standard incandescent light bulb converts only 11 percent of its electrical input into visible light, while the rest is dissipated directly as heat. There are energy costs involved in cooling the studio environment. The measure of Btu/kWh is a means of calculating the thermal loads related to operating lighting.
Use the following information to calculate Btu/kWh Watts to Btu:
1 kWh = 3413 Btu/Hr
1 Watt = 3.413 Btu/Hr
3.413 Btu per Watt-hour
