While the properties of each Silk vary, they all have essentially the same purpose, which is to be used for medium diffusion at varying degrees. White Artificial Silk offers the most diffusion at a light loss of 1.6 stops with a significant amount of ambient bounce (its counter, Black Silk offers no ambient bounce). China Silk is 1 stop light loss and 1/4 Stop Silk is about 0.6 stops light loss.
